Description

The Airport Modernization Program (AMP) is the most important national development project undertaken in the Kingdom’s civil aviation sector. This program included several strategic development projects that transformed the airport into one of the most modern boutique airports in the Gulf. These projects also enabled the Airport to solidify its position as a national and regional gateway.

The AMP was implemented in two phases with Phase 1 construction commencing in April 2016 and concluding in July 2020 and operation starting on 28 January 2021. Phase 2 commenced shortly thereafter and completed in June 2022.. As part of the Phase I modernization program, a new 210,000 m ² passenger terminal building was constructed. This state-of-the-art facility not only increased the airport’s capacity to 14 million Annual Passengers (MAP) per year, but it significantly improved airport passenger experience. A new pier which connects to the new passenger terminal building has been constructed as part of the Phase 2 modernization program.

The AMP will contribute to the realization of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 by laying the foundation for a more sustainable and diversified economy.
