Our Roadmap to Building a Greener Future 

Recognising the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing climate change that propels rather than hinders Bahrain’s economic development, the island nation has developed a clear, credible, and responsible blueprint for a more sustainable future centred around 3 pillars:  

  • Mitigate

    At COP26 Bahrain pledged to be net-zero by 2060. We will turn our targets into action by transforming our energy sector and decarbonising our economy by deploying at scale a diverse mix of low-carbon energy sources, ensuring a sustainable, secure, and affordable energy mix. We will decarbonise emissions-intensive industries by rolling out tailored sector pathways that will be developed collaboratively with industry partners

  • Adapt

    Bahrain is rolling out adaptation investments which will build a more resilient nation and ensure businesses, communities and habitats continue to thrive. National initiatives include protecting ecosystems by quadrupling mangrove coverage and doubling tree coverage by 2035 and protecting all 161 kilometres of coastline by 2040. 

  • Invest

    To ensure there is no trade-off between climate action and economic development, Bahrain will focus on leveraging investments in new low-carbon sectors to support diversification and economic growth.
